Overview

McGuireWoods LLP is looking for an experienced Labor and Employment Practice Assistant in our Los Angeles - Century City office.The assistant will support multiple attorneys with legal tasks related to a heavy case load of complex litigation cases to include e-filings in all courts throughout the state; additionally coordinates the completion of administrative tasks for the attorneys with the support of a dedicated practice administrative assistant. This is a great opportunity for a team leader to utilize high level legal skills in a busy complex litigation practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble exhibits and hearing binders; prepare document productions; schedule depositions
  • Manage documents: upload documents to e-rooms and the Document Management System (DMS); scan, save to DMS and distribute matter-related hard copy correspondence, court and agency filings; maintain pleading and document indices when appropriate
  • Coordinate mailings, deliveries, copy jobs and court (paper and electronic) filings where appropriate
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the content of attorneys’ matters as well as their client’s business/organization
  • Adapt quickly to changing environment/demands, think one step ahead and suggest next steps on assignments and ways to improve the delivery of client service without being prompted
  • Draft, for attorney review, more involved client materials (e.g., presentations, correspondence, event related communications, etc.) requiring little to no changes or corrections
  • Serve as a department-wide resource who is regularly sought out by others for assistance and knowledge; Serve as mentor to new practice assistants or newly assigned practice assistants when requested

 

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED  and five years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 2013, Outlook and Elite/DTE (or other comparable time and billing software)
  • Able to delegate appropriately and use firm resources effectively
  • Able to give clear and precise instructions to ensure high quality work product
