McGuireWoods LLP has an opening for a Litigation Practice Assistant in our San Francisco, CA office. The secretary will support attorneys who practice financial services litigation. This person will be responsible for legal and administrative tasks, such as document creation, State and Federal courts e-filing, opening and closing of files, time entry/billing, travel arrangements, meeting/conference scheduling and other special projects.

  • Prepares legal documents and correspondence from draft or dictated text.
  • Maintains client and firm files; opens and closes files according to Records Department procedures.
  • Manages attorneys’ calendars, arranges telephonic CourtCall appearances, coordinates meetings, schedules conference rooms, and makes travel arrangements as required.
  • Assists with billing process to include entering attorney time, reviewing pro formas (initiates transfers), editing and preparing draft/final bills and cover letters for clients.
  • Prepares forms for expense reports, check requests, reprographic services, etc.
  • Coordinates mailings, deliveries, copying and State and Federal court filings.


  • Requires high school diploma or GED or  and three to five years related legal experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 or more years of litigation and financial services experience is preferred.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, Chrome River, and Intapp (or other comparable time entry software).
  • Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills.
