    McGuireWoods has a need for a Docket Specialist to join its firm-wide docketing group in Chicago, IL.  The Docket Specialist has a broad knowledge of federal and state rules of procedure, local rules and court practices, and other applicable rules and regulations. As part of the firm’s software supported docket program, the docket specialist will use firm software to docket and report critical dates.

    Responsibilities

    • Computation of deadlines and calendaring of events using the CompuLaw Vision Docket System.
    • Performs runs to the various courts and agencies to execute filings, research case status, obtaining copies of documents not available on-line, and handles paying fees and costs.
    • Responsibilities include updating CompuLaw to maintain accurate docket calendar.
    • Perform case related research at court and on-line and retrieve court documents.
    • Review electronic and hard copy filings for content and format compliance with court rules.
    • Serving as liaison between the firm’s attorneys and court personnel.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of two years of experience as a general litigation calendar or docket clerk or as a paralegal, legal assistant or legal support role with docket responsibilities.
    • Combination of college level training or paralegal certificate along with experience that demonstrates an ability to do the essential functions of the position.
    • Knowledge of CompuLaw (or similar docketing software), Pacer, Lexis-Nexis, CourtLink, Westlaw and MS Office.
    • Ability to rely on knowledge of federal, state and local rules of procedure and practice, to ensure that all deadlines reflected in court filings are accurately recorded and incorporate any client requirements into case management calendars.
