    McGuireWoods has an opening for a Practice Assistant in the Financial Services Litigation group in our Charlotte, NC office. The assistant will support attorneys with legal and administrative tasks, including document management, opening and closing of files, calendaring, travel arrangements, meeting/conference scheduling and e-filing in both state and federal courts. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting a busy litigation practice and be proficient in Microsoft Office 2013.

    • Prepares legal documents and correspondence from draft or dictated text

    • Maintains client and firm files; opens and closes files according to Records Department procedures

    • Manages attorneys’ calendars, coordinates meetings, schedules conference rooms, and makes travel arrangements as required.

    • Assists with billing process to include entering attorney time, reviewing pro formas (initiates transfers), editing and preparing draft/final bills and cover letters for clients

    • Prepares forms for expense reports, check requests, reprographic services, etc.

    • Opens, prioritizes and distributes mail.  Coordinates mailings, deliveries, copying and courthouse filings


    • Requires high school diploma or GED or and three to five years related legal experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Five or more years of litigation experience is preferred.

    • Experience e-filing in both state and federal courts is a must

    • Excellent planning and organizational skills

    • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and Elite (or other comparable time entry software)

    • Professional demeanor

    • Excellent communication skills
