    McGuireWoods LLP has an opening for the Manager, Payroll in our Richmond, VA office.  The manager will oversee the firm's payroll department which is responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll for 2,000 employees across 20+ U.S. offices, with additional duties that include tax filing reviews, W2 reviews and issuance, and departmental budgeting.  The successful candidate will have five to eight years of experience in a multi-state environment with a minimum of three years in a managerial capacity.

    Responsibilities

    • Plans and directs all payroll functions and is accountable for the integrity of the payroll process 
    • Manages, leads and develops the payroll team
    • Interprets and adheres to firm policies and government regulations affecting payroll procedures
    • Oversees the payroll tax services with third party outsourcing partners and ensures compliance with payroll  tax filings and related returns and issuing W-2 forms accurately and within established deadlines
    • Manages ongoing set-ups and updates to UltiPro payroll and Infor Workforce Management time and attendance systems and is responsible for ensuring system functionality works properly 
    • Prepares the department’s annual budget and calculates the budgeted SUI rates and other payroll tax expenses for the firm

    Qualifications

    • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 
    • Five to eight years of multi-state payroll experience, including at least three years of experience managing a payroll department
    • Three plus years of related accounting experience
    • Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred
    • Must have a thorough understanding of federal, state and local wage and hour laws
    • Experience with major payroll and time and attendance systems required, UltiPro and Infor Workforce Management experience is preferred
    • Prior system conversion experience preferred
