    McGuireWoods has an opening for a Practice Assistant/Secretary in the Litigation group in our growing San Francisco office. The assistant will support attorneys with legal and administrative tasks, including document management, opening and closing of files, calendaring, travel arrangements, meeting/conference scheduling and other special projects. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting a busy litigation practice and familiarity with State and Federal courts.

    • Prepares legal documents and correspondence from draft or dictated text
    • Maintains client and firm files; opens and closes files according to Records Department procedures
    • Manages attorneys’ calendars, coordinates meetings, schedules conference rooms, and makes travel arrangements as required
    • Assists with billing process to include entering attorney time, reviewing pro formas (initiates transfers), editing and preparing draft/final bills and cover letters for clients
    • Prepares forms for expense reports, check requests, reprographic services, etc.
    • Opens, prioritizes and distributes mail. Coordinates mailing, deliveries, and copying


    • Requires high school diploma or GED or and two years of litigation legal experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and Elite (or other comparable time entry software)
    • Professional demeanor
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Knowledge of and experience in federal and state courts, to include preparation of court filings
