Overview

McGuireWoods LLP has an opening for a Legal Practice Assistant to join the Mergers & Acquisitions and Bankruptcy practice groups in our Houston office.  The Practice Assistant will support partners with legal and administrative tasks to include document management, calendaring, time entry/billing, travel arrangements, meeting/conference scheduling and other special projects. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, demonstrate a keen attention to detail, and will be service and team oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Manage attorneys’ calendars, coordinate meetings, schedule conference rooms, and makes travel arrangements as required.
  • Assist with billing process to include entering attorney time, reviewing pro formas (initiates transfers), editing and preparing draft/final bills and cover letters for clients.
  • Prepare, edit and format legal documents.
  • Assemble exhibits and hearing binders; prepare document productions; schedule depositions.
  • Manage documents: upload documents to e-rooms and the DMS; distribute matter-related hard copy correspondence, court and agency filings; maintain pleading and document indices when appropriate.
  • Coordinate court filings (paper and electronic).
  • Submit expense reports and check requests.

Qualifications

  • Preferred 5-10 years of experience in a legal environment, ideally with experience in bankruptcy law.
  • Experience with e-filing in both state and federal courts is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Elite/Intapp (or other comparable time and billing software).
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Keen attention to detail with the ability to meticulously format and edit legal documents and correspondence.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing environment/demands.
