Overview

McGuireWoods LLP is looking for a Litigation Paralegal to join our Financial Services & Securities Enforcement group in our Charlotte office. The ideal candidate will have at least 7+ years of experience in litigation, including performing legal research, organizing documents and assisting in document production, assisting with and preparing basic pleadings, assisting and responding to discovery requests and production of documents, court filings (federal and state), and preparing for trial.

Responsibilities

  • Assists attorneys in preparing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and discovery materials.
  • Manages filings in state and federal courts, including the North Carolina State Business Court, ensuring compliance with court rules and e-filing requirements.
  • Organizes and maintains case files, tracking documents from clients, opposing parties, and other sources.
  • Monitors active cases, manages calendars, docketing, and tickler systems, and ensures deadlines are met.
  • Drafts correspondence and pleadings, assists with discovery requests, document production, and trial preparation.
  • Conducts legal research using LEXIS, Westlaw, and other platforms, as well as factual investigations and due diligence.
  • Proofreads legal documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinates with outside vendors, including discovery and trial services providers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of litigation experience required.
  • Must be experienced with Federal/State filing and North Carolina Business Court procedures.
  • Experience with handling filings and the rules of the AAA and JAMS is a plus.
  • Preferred experience in preparing for and attending depositions and trials.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, especially in case file and document management.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and high-paced work environment.
  • Proactive, self-motivated individual who works well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, ECF/Pacer, and other relevant legal support software.
