Overview

McGuireWoods is seeking to hire a Manager of Infrastruture & Cloud Engineering to join the team in our Richmond, VA office. The Manager will be responsible for the ongoing modernization and management of the firm’s hybrid cloud infrastructure, and will oversee planning, installation, and long term maintenance, continuously guiding decisions on the optimal mix of cloud and on premises services as business, security, and cost requirements evolve.

Responsibilities

  • Direct a cross functional team of seven engineers and architects responsible for hybrid cloud networking, storage, data center services, authentication, Exchange, telephony, perimeter security, and wireless networks.
  • Develop and execute the strategy for migrating workloads to Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud.
  • Design, implement, and manage hybrid cloud infrastructure, ensuring integration and seamless operation between on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Provide strategic leadership on infrastructure decisions, aligning technology with business objectives and scalability needs.
  • Ensure operational excellence of IT infrastructure, proactively managing availability, performance, and capacity.
  • Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning, ensuring resilience against disruptions and threats.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to optimize service quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct budgeting, forecasting, and financial management of infrastructure-related expenditures.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, particularly AI-driven solutions, evaluating their potential to improve infrastructure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Prepare regular performance reports and communicate strategic updates to senior management and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7+ years in infrastructure management, with significant experience leading teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, including certification preferred (Azure Solutions Architect, Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator).
  • Solid experience managing hybrid cloud environments and associated technologies (VMware, Windows Server, Exchange Online, Azure AD).
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Ability to make strategic decisions on infrastructure design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with AI applications relevant to IT infrastructure management.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, including mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Strong communication skills as well as the ability to effectively present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience implementing automation solutions to enhance operational efficiency, streamline infrastructure management, and improve troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to leverage automation tools and scripts (PowerShell, Azure Automation, or similar technologies) to reduce manual tasks and optimize end-user experiences.
  • Demonstrated track record of proactively identifying and resolving infrastructure issues to improve reliability and user satisfaction.
