Overview

McGuireWoods is seeking to hire a Compensation Manager to join the firm-wide Human Resources team in either our Chicago, IL or Richmond, VA office.  This role will take the lead in planning, developing and implementing the firm’s compensation policies and practices while providing technical and analytical compensation support. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of general HR and compensation knowledge and experience, strong analytical skills and the ability to partner and build relationships with other leadership and management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees base salary and incentive programs, job evaluations, and salary survey participation.
  • Conducts market analysis of company jobs to determine competitive positioning of the organization’s pay programs.
  • Oversees annual salary administration programs, including salary structure creation and maintenance and development of incentive or salary increase budgets.
  • Provides recommendations for promotions, market adjustments, retentions, new hires and relocating employees, reflecting compensation philosophy and approach. Works with Staff Recruiting and firm-wide management to communicate/implement recommended changes. 
  • Monitors internal equity, external competitiveness and consistent application of compensation policies firm-wide. Alerts HR Manager and CHRO of salary inequities and provides recommendations. 
  • Conducts audit/analysis of annual EEO-1 reports; notifies HRIS of necessary updates. 
  • Manages compliance and regulatory changes.
  • Oversees collection and analysis of benchmark data.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in and a comprehensive knowledge of HR/compensation analysis.
  • Leadership ability and the ability to direct the work of other employees, as well as the ability to make personnel decisions.
  • Previous law firm experience helpful.
  • Experience evaluating markets and trends affecting pay practices and translating those into relevant solutions. Working knowledge/application of market pricing techniques as well as the development and maintenance of grade/range structures.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • A sense of urgency and adaptability to changing business requirements and a commitment to a proactive approach.
  • Advanced statistical analysis and research skills.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality when working with salary and bonus data.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate and thorough.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to other firm locations.
