Overview

McGuireWoods is seeking a Retirement Plan Specialist to join our Human Resources Benefits team. In this key role, you will lead the day-to-day administration of our firm's retirement plans, serve as a trusted resource for employee plan participants, and ensure strict regulatory compliance across all programs.

Responsibilities

  • Administers retirement plans, which may include a 401(k) plan and a defined benefit plan. Monitors payroll deductions, compares firm records to record-keeper, and ensures records match. Elevates discrepancies for resolution.
  • Coordinate daily benefits processing. Handle enrollments, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, rollovers, QDROs, distributions, loans, hardships and compliance testing. Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintains group benefits database and update employee payroll records.
  • Serves as the main point of contact in assisting employees in accessing their accounts and making requests to the record-keeper for hardship withdrawal requests and loan applications. Responds to questions about the plan and participant accounts.
  • Serves as a contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators. Documents, follows and maintains administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
  • Under the direction of the Sr. Benefits Specialist or Benefits Manager, understands and complies with applicable government regulations effecting retirement plans. Ensures timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required, Undergraduate degree strongly preferred.
  • At least three years of retirement plan experience.
  • CEBS helpful, but not required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Hands-on experience using HRIS platforms.
  • Professional demeanor. Respects confidentiality and privacy of employee and partner issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Interest in using innovative AI technology, including Harvey and Copilot, to support efficient high-impact work.
